The Alliance Française of Lagos is a Nigerian non-for-profit institution dedicated to the promotion of French language and francophone cultures, and to the promotion of cultural diversity. Based in Ikoyi and Ikeja, the Alliance Française of Lagos offers French classes for all kinds of audiences, as well as professional translation services for private and corporate needs.
The Alliance Française Building in Lagos, Nigeria, stands as a cultural cornerstone. This project aims to breathe new life into this iconic structure, preserving its historical significance while transforming it into a contemporary hub for cultural exchange, artistic expression, and educational activities. It also offers a variety of cultural events such as exhibitions, screenings and concerts all year long.
Alliance Française de Lagos was initially located in the "Maison de France" on Victoria Island until 1990 and then in Kingsway Road until 2006. In 2006, the institution relocated its headquarters to Yaba due to rising rent prices. The late Chief Thomas, then President of the Board, supported the move. During this time, Alliance Française de Lagos expanded its presence in Lagos, adding two new branches in VI and Ikeja. Partnerships with the Lycée Français Louis-Pasteur and the Lagos State Ministry of Education allowed the institution to expand its presence in Lagos. Today, Alliance Française de Lagos remains present in Ikeja. When informed of Alliance Française’s desire to move back to Ikoyi, Dr Mike Adenuga generously offered to build a brand-new cultural center in a pristine location.
