The site is located at the foot of Ikegami Honmonji Temple, known for its five-storied pagoda, in the southern part of Tokyo. This project presents a diverse spatial composition for various musical activities, including practicing, studying, appreciating, creating, and performing music while living on-site. Simultaneously, it proposes a new architectural composition where different spatial configurations are hybridly combined based on time and usage.
The building's shape extends along the site's geometry. A music hall planned in the southwestern section creates a circulating space both inside and outside, forming an approach, foyer, and entrance hall as an undulating landscape space. The symbolic feature of this facility is the residential space volume, which straddles this circulating space in a mountain-like shape shifted along the north-south axis.
Stepping further into the circulating space, there is a symbolic main approach staircase reminiscent of the temple's main stairs. Beyond this, private zones for soundproof rental apartments and the owner's residence are planned.
